The Simplification of Work revolutionizing the Corporate Work Culture

Over the years the corporate work culture has evolved alongside the development of industries and markets. With the technological advancements and fast paced lifestyle, the work life of employees around the globe has merged with the personal time. People are bombarded with increasing work life demand in terms of availability and connectivity. This situation may have initially increased the performance of the workforce, but with time it has overwhelmed the employees to a great extent. This has resulted in a complex work condition which is taking a mental and physical toll on the employees. This scenario arises due to the following circumstances:
  • The technological advancement has resulted in the whole world at a finger tip. This includes the work as well. As the mobile devices are capable of accessing the work related information, people receive too much of mails and other communications which are not relevant every time. Hence, this continuous process overwhelms the individual. Basically it is like carrying the office along all the time.
  • The technological innovations are too frequent now days. Coping up with the information at the same pace becomes really tough.
  • Globalization which has helped many companies to extend their business to other countries has contributed to complexity as well. Due to different time zones, often communications happen during the entire 24 hours. Odd timings force employees to be part of such communications even after office hours.
  • The complexity of business processes and HR procedures tend to overpower the employees.
Due to these rising concerns, simplification of work is being considered to bring back the balance. In this regard, it is crucial to mention that simplification of work does not essentially mean simplistic work. It refers to understanding the complexity of the work and formulating a plan to perform it in a simple and effective manner. The following measures can be taken up to promote and implement simplification of work.
  • Organized approach makes any work easier and manageable. Understanding the requirements and creating a work flow chart through detailed illustrations helps in clarity and work becomes easy approachable.
  • Communications at work is good. But too much of it may clog the entire process. The unwanted and irrelevant communication should be kept at check.
  • New technologies come up each day, older versions get updated at a fast pace. But blindly going with the flow may cause more harm than good. Hence it is better to go for simpler versions with proper research which makes the working conditions easier.
  • Seeking help from interface designers and process experts who can assist towards building up a simple and effective work system can be beneficial towards this initiative.
Putting forth all these pointers it is also very important to mention that simplifying work does not mean working less or inferior. But sometimes doing a smaller bit with greater quality pays off than working too much with no quality at all. There are some HR consultancies that provide services along these lines. Looking at the current scenario it can be predicted that this work trend will be a popular service requirement from many HR consultancies in the coming years.
